What does a grade percentage calculator do?

A grade percentage calculator turns points, questions, extra credit, penalties, and curves into a percentage score. It is useful for tests, quizzes, assignments, labs, projects, and any grade recorded as points earned out of points possible.

What is the grade percentage formula?

The basic formula is grade percentage = earned points ÷ possible points × 100. If extra credit, curve points, or penalties are used, the adjusted formula is ((earned + extra) ÷ possible × 100) + curve − penalty.

How do I use the questions missed option?

If every question is worth the same amount, enter questions missed and total questions. The calculator treats earned questions as total questions minus missed questions. Do not use this method when questions have different point values.

What does category weight mean?

Category or course weight shows how much this score contributes to the overall course grade. A 92% test worth 20% of the course contributes 18.4 percentage points to the full grade.

What mistakes cause wrong percentages?

Common mistakes include using the number of questions instead of points, adding extra credit twice, ignoring a late penalty, and assuming the gradebook rounds the same way as the calculator.

How should I plan the next step?

After calculating a grade percentage, use the Grade Needed Calculator if you want to know what score you need next, or the Course Grade Calculator to model the full course.
